Tour de Cashiers is back! The annual event is set for Saturday, April 29th.
Cyclists follow one of three routes of up to 100 miles across Jackson, Macon and Transylvania Counties riding steep climbs and fast descents over 10,500 feet-plus of elevation changes. The event offers adventurous athletic challenges suitable for the seasoned to beginner rider. And for all, it’s great outdoor recreation amid breathtaking natural scenery featuring granite-faced mountains, flowering valleys and running rivers.
This year, the CENTURY RIDE will kick off at 8:00 a.m. (NOTE: NEW TIME) from the Cashiers/Glenville Recreation Center on Frank Allen Road. METRIC RIDERS will depart at 8:30 a.m. and QUARTER CENTURY riders will begin at 9 a.m. sharp.
Returning riders will be welcomed back at the finish line with a hearty meal, and even a hot shower at the Cashiers-Glenville Recreation Center.
Community volunteers will be on hand to help ensure the ride’s success. Among those will be a 95-year old, Clark Moore, who gathered a few riders together in front of the Chamber more than two decades ago for the initial ride that would become a yearly tradition.
Support and Gear (SAG) trackers will follow riders throughout the day to promote their safety and comfort. There will be four rest stops stocked with food and water along the way. Route guidance and emergency medical services will be provided by regional fire departments, rescue squads and other law enforcement agencies.
Bring your own fan club of family and friends as there’s plenty to do in Cashiers while you’re on the road!
