The Bascom Winter Resident Artist Program, better known as the W.R.A.P., calls on Students or Faculty from the surrounding universities to submit site-specific installation proposals for The Bascom’s unique and beautiful Thompson Gallery.

April Visiting Artist, Marga McBride “Creating a Lifelike Bust” at The Bascom

The Bascom 323 Franklin Rd, Highlands

Learn to form realistic features and facial expressions that add depth and soul to your work. This ongoing class will teach you how to make a simple clay bust, model realistic faces, and demonstrate surface design and textures.

We will use a basic slab technique, cutting and assembling the pieces to form the bust, neck and head. Additional clay is attached to form the features, clothing and hair. Underglazes may then be applied to begin the process of painting the work with patterns and stencils, to give your piece a unique surface of coloration and design.

Understanding of Science through the Arts – A Workshop for Educators at The Bascom

The Bascom 323 Franklin Rd, Highlands

Two professional development opportunities for Macon and Jackson County Teachers will take place at The Bascom in Highlands.Teachers will actively engage with the art in the Bascom and connect it to math or science.

The Southeast Center for Arts Integration’s educators and teaching artists, who have decades of classroom experience, will lead the workshops.
