here are approximately seven million Muslims in the United States. These men and women come from all walks of life and from a range of ethnic and racial backgrounds.

For much of the twentieth century, North Carolina enjoyed a reputation as the most progressive state in the American South. Labeled a “progressive plutocracy” in 1949, by the end of the century many scholars referred to NC as a “progressive myth,” especially in the area of civil rights.

Southern stories are more than tangled tales of honeysuckle and kudzu. The thirteen states that comprise the Old South have collectively produced some of the nation’s finest writers and the past century’s most honored books.

Adverse circumstances occasioned by crisis such as our current situation with COVID-19 rarely remain static but rather continue to evolve. Critical thinking skills are necessary to implement response strategies best suited to the circumstances at hand. Critical thinking skills include the ability to identify and define a problem, recognize assumptions, evaluate arguments, and apply inductive and deductive reasoning to draw conclusions from the available information.

Over the last 40 years, the South has experienced social and economic change at a dizzying pace. During this period, the South was transformed from a poor region to a golden “go go” region on the move, home to large corporations and banks, a thriving high technology industry, expanding suburbs and shopping centers, and some of the best colleges and universities in the country.
