Up and Down

With a few simple steps, pitch shots are a piece of cake.

Those little pitch shots from around the green can make or break your round and either make you very satisfied or really grumpy.

One of the biggest errors is using a wedge with too much loft (sand or lob).  The more lofted wedge you use, the bigger the swing you have to take.  The longer the swing, the more problems you’re asking for.

1. Narrow stance

2. Weight favoring lead foot

3. Shaft a bit forward about even with inside lead thigh

4. Gentle grip pressure.  Do not squeeze the club

5. Straight backswing letting momentum of club hinge your wrists naturally

6. Downswing starts with a lean to your lead foot

7. Keep club low through impact sweeping under ball

8. Don’t try and scoop the ball by flipping your wrists

9. Keep turning so your hips end up facing the target

10. Finish should be slightly longer than backswing

11. Keep things smooth.  No jerking, flipping, or jabbing at the ball

Golf trips to Ireland and Scotland are really awesome.  Let me arrange one for you and your friends.
