Rhodes Big View overlook is located along Highway 64, approximately 4 miles from the town of Cashiers, heading towards Highlands. With vistas that range from Cold Mountain on the Parkway to Devil’s Courthouse on the shoulder of Whiteside, this breathtaking sight marks your entrance to Jackson County in a most memorable way. Parking is available, use caution crossing the road.
Each fall, Rhode Big View overlook becomes a location for one of the most unique leaf-looking experiences in the country – the Shadow of the Bear. This naturally occurring phenomenon makes an appearance for just 30 minutes on sunny days at 5:30 p.m. mid-October through early November. It starts with a small dark shadow at the bottom of the valley, and grows until it finally evolves into the bear.

Whether you want to tackle a mountain or sit by a stream, you’ll find just what you’re looking for here. This is a premier golf destination, but there’s so much more available. There are streams to fish, public pools and tennis courts to enjoy and playgrounds, too. Winter sports include ice skating, skiing, tubing and hiking.
