Summer Nature Camps at Highlands Nature Center-Registration Open for HBF Members
Nature Camps will be held between June and August 2023 for children ages 4 to 12 years. Each camp runs for four days (Tuesday – Friday) and are a wonderful way for kids to connect to nature, foster an appreciation for the environment, and learn about the many things that make the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau so unique.
2023 Nature Camp themes and dates will be posted Monday, January 30th on Highlands Nature Center Website.
Members of the Highlands Biological Foundation (HBF) will have access to early registration for Nature Camps.
Camp registration for HBF members will open Monday, February 27th. Registration will be available to non-members on Monday, March 6th.

Vin/Yin Yoga at Cashiers Valley Fusion
A gentle blend of Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga, this class explores the energies of yang and yin to create more balance and harmony for the mind and body.
Each student is encouraged to move slowly with awareness. The Vinyasa portion of the practice links slow to moderate movement to the breath and is designed to warm the body in preparation for the Yin portion which includes holding poses for 2-5 minutes. The Yin poses allow the connective tissues, muscles and more to stretch slowly to create more space internally.

In December 2006 Betsy Paul painted a picture for the company Christmas card, and two clients offered to buy it. So she decided to auction the painting and donate the proceeds to the Cashiers-Glenville Fire Department. Years later, the art benefit is still going strong. Art benefit tickets are $5 each and are available for purchase every month (only 100 tickets sold monthly). There is also the option of purchasing a “season ticket” for $60 which gives you one chance to win on each drawing for the next 12 months. The paintings are on display at Betsy Paul Properties. Come by during office hours (Mon-Sat 9-5) to view and purchase ticket(s). The office is located at 870 Highway 64 West next to the historic Toll House. Breathe, move, sweat and connect! Stoked by yogic breathing techniques, the internal heat of the body couples well with the external heat of the room to allow you the opportunity to drop a little deeper into your practice.
Each pose creates an opportunity to transform and grow without sacrificing the integrity of Yoga's mind, body, breath relationship.
Warm Flow Yoga class is taught in a heated room of 80-85 degrees. This is NOT hot yoga which is 90-115 degrees.
This class is suited for level 1, 2 and 3 students. Modifications and enhancements are offered as needed so everyone in the class is able to work at their own level comfortably. This class is not suited for beginners.

This six-week online class will help you take your landscape photography to a whole new level. Inspiration will be sparked through photographic exercises, time photographing in the field, and supportive critiques.

Music educator Fonziba Koster brings 30 authentic West African Jembe drums to Hudson Library for a hands-on drumming experience.
Attendees will learn about West African home life, view a video including a West African drum circle, and participate in a drum circle.

HBS Oconee Bells with Dr. Jim Costa & Mr. Charlie Williams with Highlands Biological Station
Join HBS executive director Jim Costa & Michaux scholar Charlie Williams for a day of exploration learning about the ecology & curious history of the “lost & found” Oconee Bells (Shortia galacifolia), & seeing some of the largest remaining populations of this rarity at peak bloom in its native habitat!
On March 19th, we’ll drive one hour to Devil’s Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee for a leisurely hike on the Oconee Bells Nature Trail where we will see large populations of the fabulous Oconee Bells (Shortia galacifolia), followed by a 3 hour pontoon boat trip with Jocassee Lake Tours to see little known, remote populations of Shortia. Along the way, we will visit beautiful & remote waterfalls & coves of Lake Jocassee, learn about the history of the lake, & keep an eye out for wildlife.
