This storefront decorating contest draws creative entries along and near Main St. to be enjoyed by all. Anyone may vote online for their favorite display for a chance to win a gift card. Better yet, holiday shoppers can make everyone on their list happy with gifts purchased from local Highlands merchants. Prizes are presented to local businesses who win a People’s Choice Award.
Our fifth installment in our Craft to Art series covers Musical Instruments and their history of use, importance in defining regional culture, material construction, and evolution of design in Southern Appalachia.

Known as the “Cheers” of Bookstores, the Bookworm in Highlands is affiliated with the Hudson Library: all books are donated; all staff are volunteers; and all funds go to help support the library. More than a retail store, we are a community service offering carefully sorted donated books to provide the best quality at a used bookstore price.
Kathy Manos Penn is--of course!--the books columnist at Highlands Newspaper. Be warned: Her mysteries are more addictive than your favorite Christmas cookies. She will be signing her latest titles right after the parade on December 3rd.
Everyone is cordially invited to a Christmas Carol Sing at Highlands First Presbyterian Church at 2pm on Saturday, December 3 after the Highlands Christmas Parade. If you enjoy singing familiar Christmas carols, you will definitely want to make this a part of your Christmas tradition. First Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Main and Fifth Streets.
The parade starts at 3:00 P.M. but you’ll want to arrive early to park and find the perfect viewing spot. As in years past the parade marches up 107S from Cashiers School Road, turns left at the light down Highway 64, and ends by turning left on Frank Allen Road.
Visitors to The Village Green enjoy twinkling light displays and festive decorations from Thanksgiving Weekend until early February. The park becomes a winter wonderland to make your spirits merry and bright!
