More Healthcare, Better Health
Issue: 2020/08 – August
Whether you’re here year-round, are a seasonal resident, or simply a visitor, the Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation has your health and well-being in mind.
“If you’re on the Plateau, we’re thinking of you,” says Dr. Walter Clark, Foundation Board Chair.
The Foundation envisions a community where vibrant and healthy living is ensured for all people. That’s a big task and requires a lot of visionary support.
Helping in a health crisis such as the present pandemic is fundamentally important. The foundation proactively stepped up by providing 200 hand sanitizer stands, sponsoring drive-through testing, distributing more than 5,000 masks across the plateau communities and funding several Covid-related grants.
But they believe their most important value is in tackling health-related issues at the root cause level. This means funding key partnerships that manifest permanent solutions to longstanding challenges such as the shortage of doctors in our rural area.
That’s why the foundation is funding the start-up costs in a strategic alliance that will add new doctors, a new health center, and a rural teaching medical practice on the Plateau. The Foundation has made a significant financial, multi-year commitment to fund a Blue Ridge Health Community Center that provides state-of-the art family medicine, and the UNC Health Sciences Mountain Area Health Education Center, which operates an ongoing stream of health professionals in-training, which in turn leads to a continuous supply of healthcare providers in our rural area.
“More healthcare and better health is our goal. Blue Ridge Health and MAHEC have an excellent track record and we believe this investment will mean a healthier community down the road,” said Dr. Clark.
“We so greatly appreciate and need the ongoing support of our caring donors. If you wish to know more about our Foundation we’d be delighted to speak to you,” said Foundation CEO Robin Tindall.
