Marion Macy is the manager of Physical Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation services at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital and in Cashiers. She is in charge of all outpatient therapy as well as acute inpatient therapy.

Both departments are fully staffed to meet the needs of patients requiring rehabilitative intervention. They have experience with patients of all ages and in many different states of impairment. Through the team’s hands-on and evidence-based treatments, so many in our area have regained mobility and strength.

“Since we became affiliated with Mission Health, I’ve seen a lot of changes and I feel they’ve been tremendous for our communities,” Macy says. “Mission is able to bring a lot more resources to us. I currently have 15 people working in this department.”

She also said that it’s thanks to Mission Health that the hospital is able to provide both occupational therapy and speech therapy for Highlands and Cashiers.

All the disciplines use evidence-based practices for pain management, strengthening, stability and flexibility programs. The goal is to get the patients back to their lives as quickly as possible so they can play golf, tennis, or their activity of choice. The physical therapy staff works with people of all ages and abilities. Many of their patients are young athletes who have sports injuries and are anxious to get back to the field or on the court.

“We take a very holistic approach to rehabilitation – it’s not simply the physical injury that needs treatment, but the emotional component, too,” said Macy.
