This week, The Rotary Club of Highlands hosted our Rotary District Governor, Sean Gibson at our weekly meeting. He was introduced by the Assistant District Governor, Bill Swift. But before introducing Sean, Bill presented our club with the Governor’s Award for the Third Highest Total Giving to CART, Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust, and The Governor’s Distinguished Club Citation for the Rotary year 2022-2023, the year of Chris Wilkes’ presidency.

One of the responsibilities of the District Governor’s is to share the visions and goals of the International President Gordon R. McInally of Scotland and that was to “Create hope in the world. Create hope where there was no hope before”. And to the International President, that means addressing mental health. Governor Gibson told the club that as many as 264 million people suffer from depression and that 1 in 5 teenagers in the US seriously consider suicide.

All Rotary Clubs are encouraged to do at least one program a year to discuss mental health issues and try to take some positive steps to help reduce those numbers. To learn more, go to ragonmentalhealth.org.
