We all envision a better world, and most of us desire to help someone on occasion. Thankfully, we live in a community of folks here who do just that! Our Big Brothers Big Sisters of Highlands program is growing, and therefore we are seeking help at different levels: funding (donations), in-kind donations and
new mentors.
Like all communities, we have children/teens who need a special adult friend “mentor.” With just a four- or five-hour monthly commitment, a mentor can encourage and inspire our kids to find their special spark. It’s so easy to share your experiences, time, a new activity, sports, lunch, lend an ear to a child 9-14 years old. It’s truly two-fold in the satisfaction received.
Thank you to the individuals and organizations who make it possible for the bully-proof martial arts, outdoor gardening, indoor Tower gardens, upcoming nutritional hands-on class, group art lessons and the summer highlight – Camp Henry at Lake Logan. For most of our children, camp is their only vacation, so it’s much anticipated. When someone asks them what they did this summer, they have plenty to tell!
Let’s change our world, one child at a time. Tomorrow is never promised, but we can make a difference today.
For funding, donations and mentor opportunities, please call Program Coordinator Tammy Mobley at (770) 337-1000 or (828) 524-5420, or email her at highlands@bbbswnc.org. You may also send correspondence to PO Box 2544, Highlands, NC 28741.
