Youngsters beginning the second grade to those who have just completed the sixth grade are looking forward to this year’s Music Camp at the Highlands United Methodist Church. All children, regardless of their church affiliation or their families’ beliefs, are invited to participate.

Those who have attended prior camps talk with enthusiasm about how much fun they have while learning.    This free camp will run from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. August 1 through August 5. Campers are asked to provide their own lunch.

Les Scott, Minister of Music at HUMC, will be the Music Director.   He will be joined by Margie Potts as Camp Director and Lee Lyons as Stage Director. This year’s musical is is entitled “Stories from the Stones,” and was written by Scott and Luke Osteen.

“The songs and the accompanying narratives that the children will learn focus on how we hear songs and stories from friends and family who have gone before us, and then we make them our own,” says Scott.   You won’t want to miss the performance by the campers  at 5:30 P.M. Friday night, August 5 at Kelsey-Hutchinson Park.  The campers will also perform at the First Baptist Church of Highlands on Sunday evening, August 7, at the Summer Sing, a gathering of local choirs.  The campers will sing two of the songs from their Friday night performance.

This is a very popular program and space is limited, so pre-registration is recommended.  Registration forms are available at highlandsmethodist.org or by calling the Church Office at (828) 526-3376.  The children learn musical skills, confidence and stage presence while having a good time.
