An Upside Down Christmas

Highlands United Methodist Church’s children offer a timely message of love for the entire world, in a service for the entire community at 5:30 P.M. Christmas Eve.

Written by: Wiley Sloan

Highlands United Methodist Church’s Children’s Christmas Program will be staged during the church’s 5:30 P.M. Christmas Eve Service.

“An Upside Down Christmas” examines the Christmas traditions and music from cultures around the world, beginning with a visit by the Traditional Saint Nicholas from Turkey, with stops at a little Austrian village high up in the Alps, and a poor church in Honduras adorned with love and roosters, culminating with the arrival of the Australian Santa Claus in bathing suit and shades. At the core of the travelogue is a reminder of the love that’s meant for our neighbors around the world, leavened with songs delivered by sweet young voices.

The play is staged by HUMC Director of Music Les Scott, who wrote it with Luke Osteen. This marks the duo’s 11th collaboration.

The service is open to everyone. The Church is located at 315 Main Street.  For those who cannot attend the Christmas Eve service, it can be viewed on the church’s website,
