The Versatility of the Guitar
A notable portion of the classical guitar’s repertoire consists of arrangements of music written for other instruments. This includes music originally composed for piano, violin and cello, and encompasses composers such as J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, Isaac Albeniz, and other monumental classical composers. This lecture will explore the instrument’s versatility by exploring transcriptions and arrangements from other sources and will feature recordings and live performances to present the solo guitar’s deeply expressive nature.
Presenter: Andy Jurik, Ph.D. and classical guitarist, explores the intersection of the classical and popular musical worlds. He has performed and lectured worldwide and currently teaches at the University of North Carolina-Asheville and Western Carolina University.
