The third annual seminar for gardeners is being offered on Friday, June 22, 2018 by the Coalition for Nonnative Invasive Plant Management (CNIPM). The title for the seminar is Reclaiming Your Landscape: Invasive Plant Control and Native Plant Gardens and the event will be held at the Highlands Community Building next to the ball park on route 64 East. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome by Highlands Mayor Pat Taylor.
The morning session faculty includes Robert Wyatt, Ph.D., former Executive Director of the Highlands Biological Station, and Bob Gale, Ecologist and Public Lands Director of Mountain True, a non-profit environmental organization that serves our 23 mountain counties. Sarah Workman, Assistant Director of the Highlands Biological Station will serve as moderator. An afternoon session led by Kyle Pursel, Stewardship Coordinator for the Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, will provide a hands-on management demonstration from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Recreation Park (a short walking distance from the Community Building.
CNIPM is a collaborative effort composed of 7 conservation organizations in Highlands which includes Highlands Biological Station, Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, Highlands Historical Society, Highlands Plateau Audubon, Highlands Plateau Greenway, Land Stewards of the Highlands Plateau, and the Town of Highlands.
Cost for the seminar is $10 per person payable by cash or check. Checks are payable to the Laurel Garden Club. Lunch will be provided.
