A Vibrant Season

Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library is fully embracing this most vibrant of seasons with a pair of programs.

First up, the Friends of the Library is offering a Garden Talk Lecture about the wonders and mysteries of gardening by Mary Palmer Dargan at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, May 25. Ms. Dargan has won a national following thanks to her series of books – “Lifelong Landscape Design,” “Timeless Landscape Design: The Four Part Master Plan,” and “The Birth and Evolution of the English Kitchen Garden.” Her master classes are routinely sold out and her beguiling Dovecote Garden & Porch Delight has become a cherished tourist destination in Cashiers. Her passion for plants is demonstrated in her role as an accredited Horticultural Judge with the Garden Club of America. Everyone is invited to attend this presentation.

May marks the unveiling of the library’s Summer Reading Program, a favorite activity of local children and those just visiting for the season. This year’s theme is “Build A World” and invites young people to discover the magic of the world through the simple act of reading. Supplementing those lessons will be appearances by Professor Whiz Pop, whose love of science is delivered through an extremely silly show; and Ron Cromer, The Snake Man, who arrives with a truck load of snakes and lizards for an up-close presentation that’s become a summer tradition.

The Summer Reading Program includes a scavenger hunt, puzzles, funny stuff, and, for everyone who participates, prizes and surprises.

All of the programs are free and open to the public. For information, call Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library at (828) 743-0215.
