Stay and Play in Highlands NC

Darren and The Buttered Toasts

There was a time when Highlands “rolled up the sidewalks” on Labor Day and the season officially ended. Shops closed down for the season, seasonal residents went home and visitors marked their calendars to come again next summer.

Well, those days are long gone and Highlands continues a full schedule of fun events year-round, so stay and play a little longer.

Fall is an especially fun season to take in all that Highlands has to offer. Live music at one of our weekend concert series tops many people’s lists of things not to be missed. These concerts have become family favorites and are the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights.

The ever-popular Saturdays on Pine at the Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park always draw a large crowd. Labor Day weekend marks the last such concert of this season so make plans now to go out and enjoy the show on Saturday, September 2, by Darren and The Buttered Toasts.  Commonly referred to as “The Toast,” this lively group incorporates a variety of musical genres including R&B, Soul, Alternative, Funk, Fusion, Jazz, Rock, and Gospel.

Pack a picnic, or pick up a to-go order at a nearby restaurant, bring your lawn chairs or blankets and come dance the night away, or simply sit back, relax and let the sounds carry you away.  The show starts at 6:00 P.M.

While Saturdays on Pine are winding up for the season, Friday Night Live at Town Square is just hitting its stride and will continue to delight crowds with concerts through October.  Shows start at 6:00 P.M. and the September lineup is a great one, bringing back bands that have delighted crowds throughout the season.

On Friday, September 8, The Southern Highlands Band will take the stage; September 15, crowd-favorite Tallulah River Band returns for a show; and September 22 will feature the Johnny Webb Band. Plans are still in the works for the September 29 show.
