Secret Falls
Highlands, NC
Directions: From US 64 in Highlands, head east on Horse Cove Road and enter Horse Cove. At about 3.75 miles, turn right onto Walkingstick Road. Travel 2.9 miles and turn right onto FR 4567. If it’s Off Season, the road may be gated. If it is, walk the way in. If it’s not, drive a quarter-mile to the little parking area on the left. From there, you must travel on foot. You’ll need to stick to the old logging road leading from the parking area – do not cross onto the clearly marked private property. Waterfall GPS: N35.00471 W-83.17151
About: This really isn’t Secret anymore, which is a good thing, because this near-vertical waterfall deserves to be enjoyed. There’s a little pool at its base and a sandy beach. As it is for every waterfall in Western North Carolina, do not get into the waterfall itself.
Difficulty: There’s a hike of about three-quarters of a mile, nothing tricky.
